ITS Test Plug

The ITS Test Plug is a modular arrangement of contact pins that is used for insertion into the Test Block in order to safely open secondary circuits and isolate the device that is to be tested. The pins of the Test Plug consist of two brass sides that are separated by isolation plastic. When the pin is inserted, the block contact is opened and the device side is separated from the system side (see Functional Principle). The Test Plug allows for secondary injection testing through the pre-installed banana plug jacks that connect directly to the test set. Once testing procedures are complete, the Test Plug is removed from the Test Block and all secondary circuits return to normal operation.

Test Plug Features

Automatic Short-Circuiting

When the Test Plug is inserted, current circuits are automatically short-circuited via an internal shorting bar(s) which connect designated current modules. These fixed shorting bars are specified by the customer during the ordering process and can connect any number or arrangement of current modules.

Sequential Opening of Circuits

The pins of the Test Plug are available at various lengths which allow for a time-phased opening of the circuits. The long pins are used with Trip (DC Signals) modules and the short pins are used with current and potential modules. This sequential opening of circuits ensures the proper isolation and restoration of the device being tested every time. For more information see the automatic operating sequence.

Keyed Pins

Each contact pin of the Test Plug is keyed using the isolation plastic between the A and the B sides of the pins. This keying system guarantees that only a matching Test Plug can be inserted into the designated Test Block. For more information see the keying system.

Retrofit Friendly

The ITS Test Plug is also compatible with FT style dust covers. A recessed opening located on the front of the Test Plug allows the FT style dust cover to be in place while the Test Plug is inserted into the Test Block. For more information about our retrofit capabilities see our ITS Retrofit Test Block.

Plug-Focused

Our approach to test switch technology is plug-focused. The ITS Test Block modules are physically identical, containing no customer configured test characteristics. All of these test characteristics are housed inside of the plug. Therefore, future developments will be incorporated in to the plug while maintaining its compatibility with all Test Blocks.

The plug-focused approach allows your testing procedures and capabilities to advance in the future without having to adapt a totally new system. This is why we say that the SecuControl ITS was built for the present with the future in mind. What you put into place today will be in service for a long time to come, and will need to support the advancing technologies while evolving itself.
